Inserting Images -- Work in Progress

You can insert one or more images or graphics in a topic.

You can insert GIF, JPEG, or PNG images in a topic of any type. For best results we recommend that you create an empty paragraph within a qualified element at the desired location dedicated to the placement of the graphic. This ensures that sufficient white space appears above and below the image. You can right align, left align or center the image.

To insert an image:

  1. Position thetext pointer at the location where you want to insert the image.
  2. From the DITA Storm toolbar, click Image The Image Properties dialog box opens.

  3. In the Image URL field of the Image Properties dialog box, click Browsebrowse to and select The Select a File dialog box opens.

  4. In the Select a File dialog box, select the file name and click Apply. The full absolute path to the image file appears in the Image URL field.
Note: The WYSIWSG view of DITA Storm can display only those images whose absolute path is given in the Image Properties dialog box Image URL field. However, to successfully generate the output, the Image URL field must contain the relative path only.

The absolute path includes the full directory hierarchy of the project. For example, 'http://www.ditausers.org/Users/Susancz1/dita/DITA_Manager_User_Guide/source/en/Graphics/Images/Select_a_File.GIF'

For the image to be properly generated for output, you must truncate the path to include only the file name and the container directory. For example, Graphics/Images/Select_a_File.GIF. When referenced in this manner the image will appear in the final generated output. The WYSISYG view of DITA Storm, however, displays only an icon representing the referenced image.

  5. In the Image Properties dialog box, populate the fields with the appropriate information as defined in the following table.
    Property Description
Image URL The path to the referenced image.
    • The full path enables DITA Storm to display the image in WYSIWYG view.

    • The truncated relative path enables the display of the image in the generated output.

  6. After information in the Image Properties dialog box is complete, click Apply. Depending on the type of path used in the Image URL field, either the image or the icon representing the referenced image appears at the designated location in WYSIWYG view.
  7. In the DITA Manager toolbar, click Save.
  8. In the DITA Manager toolbar, click DITA Manager. This updates the information in the project source files and launches a new main page for the DITA Manager from where you can reopen your updated project and regenerate the output to verify the changes that you have just made.
